HHS students in Ms. Duncan’s ESL class have been diving into the powerful story of Esperanza Rising. The students have connected with the characters and their journey. To bring the story to life, they created beautiful yarn craft dolls inspired by events from the book.

All Hempstead ISD offices and schools will be CLOSED for the Winter Break from December 23 - January 3. Friday, December 20 is an Early Release Day. HMS and HHS - 11:30 AM HECC and HES - 11:40 AM Staff will return on January 6, 2025 and Students will return on January 8, 2025.

Meet Ms. Kristen Payne: 2024 Hempstead ISD District Secondary Teacher of the Year With ten years of teaching experience, Payne has become an example of how to make a positive impact in the classroom. Dedicated to the growth and development of her students, her passion for literature and her belief in the transformative power of education has left a lasting impact on both her students and colleagues. "I realized that literature, at its core, is about humanity in all its forms—light and dark, strength and frailty, excellence and ugliness." One of the hallmarks of Ms. Payne’s teaching is her ability to keep students motivated and engaged. Her approach involves creating a dynamic classroom setting where students are challenged but supported. Whether in the classroom or attending community events, she believes that building strong relationships with students is key to fostering growth, and her investment in both her students and the Hempstead community has helped her build those connections.
