Wrapping up an amazing Teacher Appreciation Week at HES!

This week is National Nurses' Week! We appreciate Nurse McClendon and all the ways she cares for HES students!

The Kindergarten Graduation Ceremony will be held on the last day of school, Friday May 24th, at 9:00am. Be on the lookout for a note coming home with your kindergartener that will allow you to pre-register and denote if you will be checking your student out early. This helps check-in and sign out procedures run quickly the day of the ceremony so you can enjoy this time with your student!

HES hosted its annual Cinco de Mayo Program last Friday, showcasing dances and songs from different regions of Mexico. Students put on quite a performance, along with mariachi group Mariachi Los Peregrinos! Thank you to the many teachers and staff who helped make this event a success, as well as HES PTO!

Thank you bunches for making our lunches! Last week, HES honored our cafeteria workers for School Lunch Heroes Week!

Teacher Appreciation Week is May 6-10, 2024. This year, Hempstead ISD is taking the opportunity to celebrate the superstar educators who make a difference in the lives of their students every day. To celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week use the hashtag #ThankABobcatTeacher.

Ms. Johnson's 3rd graders celebrated being the top selling class for the World's Finest Chocolate fundraiser with a Pizza Party! They sold over $1500 worth of chocolate to support activities for all HES students!

Happy Principal Appreciation Day to our fearless leader, Dr. Shiflett! PTO treated her to a special gift to show their appreciation for the many things she does for HES!

The bond proposal includes an auxiliary gym for Hempstead Middle School. The campus has one gym, shared during the school day with physical education students, pre-athletics, and athletics class periods. This causes both girls and boys to share the gym during school, practices, and on game days. The addition of the auxiliary gym would help alleviate scheduling and class use issues by providing more space for physical education classes, athletic class periods, and athletic games ensuring a smoother and more efficient operation of school programs. Early Voting is April 22-30 and Election Day is May 4. Voting locations can be found under Voting at hempsteadisd.org/bond2024. #BobcatsVote

The proposed bond includes a new concession stand and restroom at the baseball fields. The new concession stand and restrooms would bring both buildings up to modern standards. Early Voting is April 22-30 and Election Day is May 4. Voting locations can be found under Voting at hempsteadisd.org/bond2024. #BobcatsVote

Safety & Security! The proposed bond includes:
📌Enclosed security connectors (corridors): to The Bobcat Den (Cafeteria/Band Hall) to Hempstead Middle School and between all four buildings at Hempstead Elementary School
📌New Cafeteria and Band Hall at Hempstead High School
Things to Note:
- The current Bobcat Den, built in 1997, sits between the middle school and high school campuses.
- It serves as a cafeteria and band hall for both Hempstead Middle School and Hempstead High School students.
- HMS students have to eat lunch at 10:20 a.m. to accommodate both campuses for lunch. The last lunch at HHS ends at 1:35 p.m.
- The addition of the cafeteria at the High School would allow a regular lunch schedule for all secondary students at the middle and high school.
📌Connecting The Bobcat Den to HMS, building a cafeteria and band hall at the high school, and enclosing all four buildings at the elementary school would help enhance student safety and limit exposure to inclement weather conditions.
Early Voting is April 22-30 and Election Day is May 4. Voting locations can be found under Voting at hempsteadisd.org/bond2024. #BobcatsVote

Second graders in Mrs. Sanders' class made life-size diagrams of the human body and organ systems found inside. Connecting reading and science makes learning even more powerful!
