Across all grade levels, GT students have begun an engaging STEM challenge: designing and building a marble maze 🧠🎢
📸 The pictures shared capture the very first stage of the project, students testing different materials to explore friction and how it impacts the speed of their marbles. Acting as scientists and engineers, students are timing their trials, comparing results, and analyzing which surfaces create the most resistance before deciding what materials they want to include in their maze designs.
This early testing phase helps students practice data collection, problem-solving, and critical thinking, ensuring their final designs are based on evidence rather than guesswork.
A huge thank-you to Mrs. Hazel for leading hands-on, meaningful learning experiences that encourage creativity, experimentation, and thoughtful design. We can’t wait to see how these marble mazes come together! 🌟

To ensure every student is making the rapid academic progress needed for our turnaround goals, our students will be participating in district-required interim assessments this month. These results are vital pieces of evidence that tell our teachers exactly where to focus their instruction and intervention efforts.

Hempstead Elementary is thrilled to introduce our 2025–2026 Student Council Officers!
Over the past few weeks, student council candidates worked hard to earn the trust and support of their peers. They researched their desired positions, designed and decorated campaign posters for the hallways, and even wrote persuasive speeches. After rehearsing with their advisor, each candidate presented their speech to the 4th and 5th grade student body.
Elections were held on Friday, December 5, 2025, and while the results were incredibly close, we are proud to announce our new student leaders:

Sweet Treats are FREE! All students attending will receive complimentary milk, cookies, and hot chocolate. They do not need to bring any money.
Purchase Deadline: The last day for students to earn/purchase their reward ticket is Tuesday, December 16th.
Behavior and Attendance Reminder: Our reward events celebrate consistent positive behavior. Any student who purchases a ticket and subsequently receives a discipline referral resulting in an In-School Suspension (ISS) or Out-of-School Suspension (OSS) between now and the event date will, unfortunately, not be permitted to attend. Their reward points will be fully refunded for future use.
Thank you for supporting our focus on positive behavior and engagement! We look forward to a festive and fun morning with our students. Parents will not be able to attend this event. More detailed logistical information will be shared with you closer to the date.

Our 12 Days of Christmas kicks off December 3rd with Christmas Sock Day. Think your students can rock the craziest holiday socks? We're about to find out.
Here's what's coming:
Ugly Sweater Day on December 11 (followed by our Christmas Program at 5:30pm)
Santa hats, jingle bells, and yes, even reindeer antlers
A special half-day on December 19 for Polar Express Day in pajamas
Mark your calendars. Set those reminders. Maybe even start planning which flannel shirt works best for December 10.

Dear HES Families,
We are excited for our special Thanksgiving lunch, and we look forward to celebrating with those of you who have already purchased a ticket for this event! We will not be selling tickets at the door and we strongly encourage you to preregister. Please read the following mandatory updates regarding check-in and lunch timing to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience.

This section is only for those who have PRE-PURCHASED A TICKET.
Driver's License Required: To pick up your purchased lunch ticket and visitor badge, you must present a valid Driver's License or government-issued photo ID at the check-in table. This is required for security and to verify your pre-purchase.

Pick Up Your Badge and Ticket: Collect your visitor badge and lunch ticket at the designated check-in table using your ID.

Please note the following restriction on the duration of your visit to help us manage seating for all families:
30-Minute Meal Limit: To accommodate all grades, you will only have 30 minutes to eat with your student once you are seated in the cafeteria. We appreciate your cooperation in adhering to this time limit.

You will need to line up again and pick up a new ticket and badge (with your ID) for your next child’s lunch period.
