At Hempstead High School, leadership doesn’t always come with a title; it’s often shown through service, reliability, and the quiet influence of someone who chooses to make their school a better place. This month, one student was recognized for doing exactly that. As the recipient of the December Superintendent's Higher Heights Award, Derrick Reed, HHS junior, has earned recognition from teachers, staff, and administrators for their strong school pride and commitment to making Hempstead High School a better place.

“Receiving the Superintendent’s Higher Heights Award makes me feel like I’m doing something right,” he explained. “It tells me I’m doing a good job with what I’m involved in, and that my peers, teachers, and the faculty recognize it.”

Mrs. Hazel led our 4th and 5th-grade Hempstead Elementary Gifted and Talented students through the Pringle Ringle Challenge. The STEM activity pushes students to build a complete circle made of Pringles! No glue, no tape, just friction and gravity.

The students worked together and used their problem-solving skills as they engineered their own self-supporting Pringle rings, using nothing but chips, patience, and creativity

Our GT program is currently accepting applications for the 2026-2027. If you know a student in Grades K-11, nominations will be accepted now through December 19, 2025. Read More at hempsteadisd.org.

We had a successful Hempstead Early College High School Parent Information Night. A special highlight of the night was hearing from Mary Miranda, a current ECHS student who has been in the program for two years. She spoke about her experience, her growth, and what ECHS has meant for her future. We are excited for the next group of students to take this step toward college and career success!

Bobcat Principal Spotlight: Ms. LaKesha Morgan
📍 School: Hempstead High School
⭐ Leadership style in one word: Transformational
🍎 Best part about being a principal: “The best part about being a principal is watching the underdogs succeed when no one else believes they can! There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing a student or teacher rise above challenges, exceed expectations, and realize their own potential. Being part of those “aha” moments is why I love this work.”
🎶 Principal Playlist Pick: "God Favored Me" by Hezekiah Walker and The Love Fellowship Choir
🍕Favorite School Lunch Growing Up: Breakfast Pizza
💼If you weren't a principal, you'd probably be a: Police Officer
😮Students might be surprised to know I...: Students may be surprised I’m licensed to drive big vehicles! I have a CDL.
💡 Advice she gives students: "Change begins with you! You already have everything you need to be successful; you just have to tap into it, believe in yourself, and put in the work. I want students to know that their choices and mindset matter every single day."
👉One emoji that sums up being a principal: 🙏Leading a school requires patience, guidance, and faith in both the process and the people. I rely on prayer, reflection, and gratitude to stay centered and effective every day.

Help us thank Ms. Morgan for everything she does for our Bobcats!
