The Summies, awarded by Summit K-12, recognize school districts for accelerating achievement in Emergent Bilingual (EB) students.
Districts and campuses across Texas are evaluated on their TELPAS growth, Summit K12 usage, and innovative implementation strategies that help students progress toward English proficiency.
Hempstead ISD received 1st place in the Extra Small District designation, earning a spot among the top-performing districts in the state. Hempstead ISD received multiple awards during the 2025 Summies ceremony, held at the annual Texas Association for Bilingual Education (TABE) conference:
Hempstead ISD – 1st Place, Extra Small District of the Year
Hempstead Elementary School – 1st Place, Elementary of the Year
Hempstead Middle School – 2nd Place, Middle School of the Year
Elementary Teacher of the Year – 2nd Place, Abraham Ahumada
