Hempstead ISD is proud to announce that Hempstead High School is a 2025-2026 National Beta School of Merit. The school earned this recognition by offering National Beta to all eligible grades on its campus.
The National Beta School of Merit award is given to honor a club’s dedication and commitment to academic excellence. To achieve this prestigious honor, a school must include members from all eligible grade levels in their Beta club. This year, 6,103 clubs across the country received this award.
This summer, three Hempstead High School students placed at the National competition held in Nashville, Tennessee.

Josue Cardenas - 2nd Place (Spanish)
Christian Vega-Stephens - 2nd Place (Psychology)
In a congratulatory letter to the school, National Beta CEO Bobby Hart expressed his appreciation for participants.
“Thank you for your continued support of National Beta and commitment to developing future leaders,” Hart said.
Eleven Beta Club students were able to attend the National Conference this summer.
“I am so proud to have been a small part of giving our students the opportunity to shine on the National stage,” Christine Herbert, Beta Club sponsor, said. “It was so exhilarating to hear 'Hempstead High School, Hempstead, Texas' called four times during the award ceremony. These students represented not only us, but the state of Texas with dignity and class. We had a trip that I will never forget.”
During the trip, the students were also able to visit Tennessee hot spots like the Grand Ole Opry, Graceland and the Lorraine Motel. This trip was a first for many of the students.
