HISD Celebrates Black History Month

February is Black History Month!

This year's Black History Month theme celebrates a century of Black History Commemorations. The month recognizes the contributions and achievements of Black people in the United States

The 100th anniversary of the federal recognition of Black Americans began as a week of learning and recognition. In 1926, the week became a cultural observance of Black History throughout February.

Dr. Carter G. Woodson, a historian and educator, had the goal to integrate Black history into communities at large across the nation. Noting that Black history is a part of American History.

Hempstead ISD schools will be celebrating Black History Month throughout the month of February. Join us in celebrating the many achievements and contributions of African Americans and celebrate African American trailblazers across arts, politics, sports, advocacy, and more.
