Hempstead Independent School District has named William Jeffery as the new principal of Hempstead Elementary School. With over 20 years of experience in education, Jeffery brings a strong background in teaching and leadership to his new role.
Jeffery began his career in 2004, teaching pharmacy technician courses at Remington College. Over the years, he has served as a science teacher, elementary digital learning specialist, K–12 science coordinator, assistant principal, and high school principal. He has also supported teachers and campuses in curriculum and professional development at the district level.
Most recently, he served as Assistant Principal in Katy ISD, where he worked closely with freshman students, managed discipline, oversaw 504 plans, and provided instructional support to staff.
His path to education was inspired by the impact teachers had on his life.
“I started off with a learning disability, dyslexia, but I was blessed to have amazing teachers who pushed me to be the best version of myself,” he shared. “They inspired me to give back by helping students reach their potential.”
As principal of Hempstead Elementary, he is focused on creating a positive and supportive learning environment.
“I want every student to have a strong foundation and every teacher to feel supported and proud to work here,” he said. “Great schools are built on teamwork, strong relationships, and a shared commitment to doing what’s best for kids.”
Jeffery holds a bachelor’s degree in biology and a master’s in counseling education from Prairie View A&M University, as well as a master’s in educational administration from Stephen F. Austin State University. He also completed leadership training at the Harvard Graduate School of Education’s Principals’ Center in 2023.
He and his wife, Laura, have been married for 19 years and have two children. Ella, a junior at Prairie View A&M University, and Reese, a high school sophomore. Their family also includes two dogs named Defense and Rebound.
As the new school year approaches, Jeffery is most looking forward to building strong relationships with students, staff, and families.
“Hempstead is a special community, and I can’t wait to be part of it,” he said.
