Hempstead ISD is proud to announce that Hempstead High School Principal LaKesha Morgan has been selected to participate in the XXIX Principal Academy through the Thompson Executive Leadership Institute (TELI). She is one of only 25 principals from across Texas chosen for this year's cohort.
Throughout the 2026-2027 school year, Morgan will engage in a series of professional development sessions designed to strengthen research-based leadership practices and connect her with a statewide network of fellow principals.
The Thompson Executive Leadership Institute is a nationally recognized leadership training program for principals and superintendents, led by Dr. Bob Thompson and facilitated by Education Service Center Region 13. The academy brings school leaders together to test ideas, exchange concepts, and build professional networks through face-to-face collaboration with session leaders and fellow campus leaders.
“I am truly honored and grateful to have been selected as one of only 25 principals for the Principal Academy,” Morgan said. “I believe leadership requires us to remain lifelong learners and to continually challenge ourselves to become better for the people we serve. I am excited to learn alongside other school leaders, grow in my leadership, and bring that learning back to HHS. Our students and staff deserve my very best, and I will continue investing in my own growth so that I can continue helping others grow.”
Morgan's selection comes on the heels of a milestone year for Hempstead High School. The campus recently celebrated a significant academic achievement, raising its state accountability rating from 59 to 77, an 18-point gain. While proud of this progress, Morgan and the Hempstead High School team are not slowing down. The campus remains focused on continued growth this school year, with an ultimate goal of earning an A-rating.
