The Hempstead ISD Board of Trustees met on Monday, February 23, 2026.
The meeting started with a Public Hearing on the 2024-2025 Texas Academic Performance Reports (TAPR).
During the board meeting, Hempstead ISD Superintendent Herbert O’Neil provided his monthly Superintendent’s Report and celebrated the February Students, Campus Teachers, and Support Staff of the Month. Additionally, he provided Bond 2024 updates.

Superintendent’s Higher Heights Award
Each month, Superintendent O’Neil selects someone who has made a significant difference or contribution to Hempstead ISD. The award is available to employees, community members, businesses, volunteers, and students.

This team of staff members is a crucial part of the Hempstead Elementary School community. These staff members provide all teachers with both a planning and conference period every day. They provide every student with daily organized play and physical education, along with art, music, library, technology, and social-emotional learning. They continue to do an amazing job providing elementary school students with specials and physical education daily.
Trustees Approve Action Items
The Hempstead ISD Trustees approved the following action items:
Approved the 2026-2027 District Calendar.
Approved a Resolution for employee compensation for inclement weather due to freezing temperatures and hazardous road conditions (January 26, 2026).
The March Board meeting will be held on Monday, March 23, and will begin at 6 p.m. in the Hempstead ISD Administration Building Board Room.
