Hempstead Early Childhood Center Tiny Cats are ready to grab success one sticker at a time.
This year, our youngest learners are working hard to collect incentives through the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program. PBIS is a proactive framework used in schools to improve student achievement and behavior.
Hempstead Early Childhood Center students can earn stickers for making positive choices, following campus expectations, and showing good behavior throughout the week.
“Originally, our sticker charts were too big for the students, so we created a smaller, five-sticker chart to make their goals more exciting and more attainable,” Mallory Miller, pre-kindergarten teacher, explained.
Once a student fills all the spots on their sticker chart, they earn a special coin that unlocks a turn at the claw machine. Inside the machine, students have a chance to grab items such as keychains, tiny stiffened animals, pop its, squishes, and slinkies.
The small prizes are perfect for celebrating wins for good behavior.
Students have the opportunity to grab an item from the claw machine each time they complete their sticker chart, making positive behavior rewarding and motivating.
“We chose the claw machine instead of a traditional school store, because it’s simple, hands-on, and age-appropriate for the students.”
Rather than keeping up with money, students can earn coins and enjoy the excitement of the grab.
The youngest Bobcat learners are excited about making positive choices and having a chance to claw their way toward success, one sticker and one coin at a time.
