The staff at Hempstead Early Childhood Center wasted no time preparing for the new school year. During the first few days back, Principal Keri Houston led teachers through hands-on professional learning that connected cutting-edge brain science to Pre-K classroom practice.
Teachers explored how our youngest learners' brains develop and what that means for setting up routines, designing learning stations, and creating a positive learning environment. Together, they also planned a strong first week of school and launched a new goal for the year to transform Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) into interactive sessions where teachers rehearse and refine lessons to better serve students.
Teachers embraced fresh ideas and strategies, with Principal Houston modeling the growth mindset that will guide the year ahead.
This year, the team has a full plan in place, including monthly support visits, bi-weekly check-ins, and professional development days planned for this fall and spring. A select group of teachers will also take part in an exemplary school visit to bring back new strategies to share with their colleagues.
At Hempstead ECC, our teachers aren’t just preparing classrooms; they are preparing young minds for success, one intentional lesson at a time.
