Committee meeting

On Thursday, December 15, more than 50 Hempstead ISD community members and partners came together to start working on the Hempstead ISD Strategic Plan.

The strategic planning committee is made up of students, parents, district staff, community partners, and business leaders. During the meeting members of the committee discussed their highest aspirations for the students of Hempstead ISD and identified beliefs for the district. Beliefs were determined by what the members believed to be important to the members of the community. Those beliefs will serve as the foundation of the direction of the five-year strategic plan and help direct the priorities of the District.

Decisions made through this process will help the District offer the best educational opportunities possible for all students. The work completed by the strategic planning committee will guide the future of the District.

There are six components to the strategic planning process — identifying core beliefs, defining the mission and vision of the district, developing goals, objectives, strategies, and an action and implementation plan. The final plan will include guiding principles to ensure growth in all aspects of the district going forward.

The strategic planning process kicked off during a special board meeting, on December 8. The Hempstead ISD Board of Trustees has charged the strategic planning committee with the responsibility to work with the Superintendent and district leaders to develop a five-year strategic plan for recommendation to the Board. The District also invited community members, teachers, staff, students, and parents to participate in focus groups to gather feedback. The district will seek the voices of all perspectives throughout the community.

The strategic planning committee will meet throughout the remainder of the school year and will provide a recommendation to the School Board in the Spring. Community stakeholders will be able to participate in a survey and provide feedback in January 2023.
