The Hempstead ISD Board of Trustees approved pay raises for all employees, employee retention incentives, and sign-on bonuses during the June 20 Board meeting.

The retention incentive will be determined by the service time a Hempstead ISD employee has spent with the district and will be paid in two installments. Trustees also approved raising the starting teacher salary from $49,454 to $50,937.

Employee Retention Incentives:

  • $1,500 for employees with 1-5 years of service in Hempstead ISD

  • $2,500 for employees with 6-10 years of service in Hempstead ISD

  • $3,500 for employees with 11+ years of service in Hempstead ISD

In addition to employee retention incentives, the Board approved 3 percent raises for all employees.

“I am grateful that our Trustees recognize the importance of awarding our staff for their years of service in Hempstead ISD,” Superintendent Herbert O’Neil, Jr. said. “It is equally important to remain competitive in recruiting and retaining high-quality teachers and staff to support our students and prepare them for their future. This decision reflects the board's commitment to our students and staff.”

New employees will receive a signing bonus of $1,250 and $3,000 for bilingual teachers. The District also pays a $20,000 life insurance policy for all employees.

Additional teacher incentives include a $9,000 stipend for upper-level math; a $9,000 stipend for upper-level science; a $6,000 stipend for high school English; and $2,500 for Special Education Life Skills, Adaptive Behavior, and PASS.

The 2022-2023 budget is scheduled to be approved by the Board of Trustees at the August 2022 board meeting.
