School Board Election
Hempstead Independent School District
School Board Election – May 2, 2026
About the Board of Trustees
The Hempstead ISD Board of Trustees is made up of seven board members who are elected by the citizens of the district to represent the community’s commitment to a strong educational program for the district's children. Trustees are elected each year in May and serve three-year staggered terms. Trustees serve without compensation, must be registered voters and must reside in the district.
Trustees are elected to a specific place on the board (ex. Position 1, Position 2, etc.) although they represent the entire district as a whole. Each year after the election is finalized, the Board elects officers (president, vice president, and secretary) for a one year term.
The next Board of Trustee Election is scheduled for May 2, 2026. Positions 4 and 7 are up for election in 2026.
The school district and other municipalities share the cost of election.
