This is the image for the news article titled Juana Williams Recognized as Secondary New Teacher of the Month at HISDJuana Williams was recognized as the Secondary New Teacher of the Month during the March monthly professional development session at Hempstead ISD. As a new teacher of the month at Hempstead ISD, she received a #risktaker t-shirt donated by MaBisha Stubblefield (Bisha’s Bling), a Mary Kay gift bag donated by Jackie Craver and a certificate to display in her room.

“Juana Williams was voted teacher of the month for her great dedication to this year's Hempstead 6th graders,” said Secondary Math Coach Cyndi Dull. “She does a great job balancing relationship and accountability with her students. She holds her students to high standards while also meeting them where they are at. She tries many alternative ways to help students feel valued and to have every opportunity to learn math. Our students have already grown leaps and bounds in their math skills this year,” said Dull.

Williams is a new teacher at Hempstead Middle School who currently teaches 6th grade math. “Ms. Williams is such a joy! She encourages her students to go the extra mile,” said Melissa Skinner, HISD Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction. “She works hard to build strong lasting relationships with our 6th graders. She utilizes flexible seating in her classroom to meet the needs of all learners,” said Skinner. “We are thrilled she joined the HISD team.”

Williams, a graduate of the University of Houston, came to Hempstead ISD with prior teaching experience having taught science at Waller Junior High, science at Richey Academy (Spring ISD’s DAEP) and Algebra at Katy ISD.

“I am honored to be awarded New Secondary Teacher of the Month,” said Williams. “My experience here in Hempstead has been extremely rewarding.” Williams said she remembered what Dr. Gutsch said when she introduced herself to the staff in August, "Our kids are cute country kids that WANT TO LEARN!" “I have found that to be so true! It is truly motivating for me as a teacher to watch their eyes light up when they are able to grasp a concept that they once struggled with,” said Williams.

Congratulations Juana Williams for being recognized as a New Teacher of the Month at Hempstead ISD!
