Hempstead ISD earned TEA's highest rating for the 2015-2016 school year.

Hempstead ISD earned a rating of Met Standard in the Texas Education Agancy (TEA) 2016 State Accountability Ratings; this is the highest rating under the accountability system.  Thank you to our staff and students for accomplishing this task!

Hempstead High School and Hempstead Elementary also earned the Met Standard rating.  Hempstead Middle School earned the Improvement Required rating.

Hempstead ISD hosted Grandparents’ Day on Monday, September 12, on all campuses across the district. Students were encouraged to invite their grandparents to have lunch with them for the day. Over 200 guests enjoyed lunch with the students.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

The 2015-2016 accreditation status of the Hempstead ISD is Accredited-Probation.  Under state law, the accreditation statuses that may be assigned to districts include Accredited, Accredited-Warned, Accredited Probation, and Not Accredited-Revoked.  A status of Accredited-Probation means that a district exhibits deficiencies in performance that, if not addressed, will lead to revocation of the district's accreditation status.

Public Notification of Nondiscrimination in Career and Technical Education Programs

Hempstead ISD offers career and technical education programs in business, management and administration; accounting; agriculture, food and natural resources; career preparation; computer automated drawing (CAD); human services; manufacturing and welding; health science; and information technology.  Admission to these programs is based on student interest, age, and grade requirements specified by TEA as well as availability and teacher recommendation.

It is the policy of Hempstead ISD not to discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex or handicap in its vocational programs, services or activities as required by Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended; Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972; and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended.

It is the policy of Hempstead ISD not to discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, handicap, or age in its employment practices as required by Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended; Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972; the Age Discrimination Act of 1975, as amended; and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended.

Free and Reduced-Price Meals Offered at HISD Secondary Campuses 

Hempstead ISD announced its policy for providing free and reduced-price meals for children served under the current income eligibility guidelines set by the state. Each school/site or the central office has a copy of the policy, which may be reviewed by anyone on request.

Starting on Monday, August 22, Hempstead ISD will begin distributing letters to the households of the children in the district (high school and middle school) about eligibility benefits and any actions households need to take to apply for these benefits. Applications will go out in the first day packets. Applications also are available on-line as well as the cafeteria, each campus office, and central office.

Free Meals Offered at Hempstead Elementary Campuses 

Hempstead Elementary School announced a change to its policy for serving meals to children served under the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program for the 2016 - 2017 school year.

Schools qualifying to operate the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) provide breakfast and lunch to all children at no charge and eliminate the collection of meal applications for free, reduced-price, and paid student meals. Hempstead Elementary has qualified for the CEP program.
